AI should improve us as individuals, professionals, and companies, but this will not happen unless we maintain a consistent emphasis on the appropriate deployment of AI across all business processes.

Let's speak about why it's critical for your business to develop its own AI ethical policy and standards.
Marketing AI Institute founder/CEO Paul Roetzer spoke with me on Episode 33 of The Marketing AI Show on why firms must move swiftly to develop guidelines around how they employ AI.
1. There is no more time to fritter away.
The velocity of advancement in AI compelled us to define our responsible AI principles, even if we recognize they are incomplete.
Because there is just no more time to postpone establishing AI policies. Beautiful new technologies like ChatGPT are upending business as usual. And big tech companies are inventing at breakneck speed in an AI arms race to unleash new technologies as soon as feasible.
Companies will be forced to ask and answer challenging questions about how they employ strong new AI capabilities for themselves and their customers—and this will happen quickly.
2. Don't expect the government to perform your work for you.
You may be tempted to rely on governments to create complete policies for responsible AI use.
This is a blunder.
When it comes to AI, the government will fall behind. And government regulation measures, such as the European Union's AI Act, will be extremely difficult to implement in practice. At this point, it's unclear if government regulation of AI capabilities in their current versions is even possible.
"It's critical that we embrace the necessity for self-governance at the firm level," adds Roetzer.
3. Inaction has a heavy cost.
Without competent AI rules, you expose yourself to considerable hazards. This is why:
"There will be several moments at work when people will be asked to perform something using AI that they do not agree with," adds Roezter. "However, there will be no procedures or laws in place to restrict them from doing so."
We are currently in the Wild West as a result of the circumstances described above. There will be competitive pressure to cut shortcuts and cross ethical lines.
As a result, it is critical for businesses to have very explicit standards for their workers about the appropriate use of AI technology.
